Public Speaking

Every year the school engaged in the process that led to sending students to compete in the Royal Canadian Legion's Public Speaking Competition in the Legion Hall.  The process began at the class level involving children in all three divisions.  Time was spent in class in the preparation and presentation of speeches and then in-school public speaking competitions were held in the gym.  The winners from each division went on to compete with students from other area schools for the prizes offered at the Legion.

The Legion's website explains the program. "The goal of the Public Speaking Contest, part of the Legion's Youth and Education program, is to give young people an opportunity to speak in public.   Students are allowed to choose their own topics for the contest. A 3-5 minute original speech is required for all Grade 1 to 9 students and a 5-7 minute speech for all Grade 10-12 students. Competitors advance through Branch, Zone, District levels to the final Provincial Contest.  The contest is divided into 4 different divisions according to grade levels: Grades 1-3,  Grades 4-6,  Grades 7-9  and grades 10-12.
