During the 1986 - 1987 School Year,
two grade eight students, Dana Freeman and Eddie
Thomas were involved in the production of a school
television program called "Espanola Today". The
program featured events and people at the school and
in the wider community.
Here is Dana interviewing Jacquie
Taylor about her figure skating success at the
Canadian National Championships.
And, here is Eddie during an
interview with Corinna Paquette about her
competitive swimming.
**************************** The first episode of Espanola Today corresponded with a grade 7 and 8 Air Band Competition that was held in the gym after school. The video of that episode still exists although at the moment not in a format that we can show here. What I have done though is to screen-snap a few scenes to illustrate the event and jog the memories of those who participated some 19 years ago. The quality of the images is very poor at least in part because the gym was poorly lit and the video equipment wasn't up to the job. This has been compounded by attempting to extract still images and Photoshop them to "improve" quality. However, I'm sure those involved will know who they are and if you know any of the names that are missing let me know and I will add them. The first act here involved Tina
Turner and Brian Adams singing "It's Only Love"
And here they are being interviewed later by Dana. **************** "Walk Like an Egyptian" by the
Bangles was a popular hit at the time and here it
was performed by a group that included Shawna
Ouellette, Kari Maguire, Chris Merchant, Clint
White and Stacey Lewis among others. It was
ultimately the winner of the contest.
************************ Then there was Bon Jovi
singing "You Give Love a Bad Name"
**************************** I have to admit that I have
no idea what this group was singing. The
sound quality on the recording was very poor
and unfortunately the interviewer didn't ask
the question, at least on camera.
The group featured L to R
below, Melanie Cote, Crystal Bell,
Robin Spry, Kim Clackett, Deana Hore, and
Stephanie Gesseron.
****************************** Then there was Bananarama 1 with "Venus" The band featured Kim McCulloch, Kyla Tooley and Jacquie Taylor. *************************** And finally Bananarama 2 - with "Cruel Summer" Here are the members of the group. |
